[Industry News] World's smallest cardiac pacemaker

Recently, Medtronic created the world's smallest pacemaker Micra officially implanted in the human body. How small is this pacemaker? The comparison between the picture below and the 25-cent coin is clear at a glance. That's right, like a vitamin capsule.

Mr. Bill Pike, 76, implanted Micra at the St. Vincent Medical Center in Providence, USA. The world's smallest pacemaker is still in clinical trials and will last for one year throughout the trial period, involving 780 patients in Europe and the United States. The Providence St. Vincent Medical Center is the only test site in the Northwestern United States and has been implanted in three cases.

Micra can last up to 10 years. Instead of a traditional pacemaker, the Micra is implanted from the shoulder or chest, but in a minimally invasive manner, the blood vessels in the legs enter the heart and attach to the heart muscle, with minimal risk of infection. Mr. Pike was born in Micra on November 6th and can walk down the next day.

According to Dr. Randy Jones, who is responsible for Pike, the Micra is about the same time as a typical pacemaker, about 40 minutes. After the operation, Pike was asked about the difference between Micra and a general pacemaker. He said that "traditional pacemakers are completely incomparable with Micra." He said that her wife's conventional cardiac pacemaker was larger than his size. Five times.

According to a Medtronic spokesperson, the US FDA is expected to approve the Micra listing in 2016.
