According to reports, iodine deficiency disorders mainly impair the development of children's brain nerves, manifested as varying degrees of mental retardation, low learning ability, but also expressed as endemic goiter, commonly known as "thick neck root" or "big neck disease." According to the plan, Shandong will increase iodized salt coverage and qualified iodized salt consumption in areas with iodine deficiency, and promptly supplement iodine to high-risk groups. In the iodized salt supply area, set up a reasonable sales network of iodine-free salt, to facilitate the purchase of people who are not suitable for iodized salt.

At the same time, Shandong Province reclassified the iodine deficiency and water-borne high-iodine areas based on the latest survey results of drinking water iodine content. Continue to implement the strategy of providing non-iodized salt in high-iodine areas, strengthen disease monitoring and assessment of population iodine nutritional status, adjust intervention strategies, and implement measures to improve water and iodine reduction in high-iodine wards.
