Moderate exercise helps reduce prostate cancer mortality

Release date: 2014-12-24

According to a new study published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, moderate physical activity reduces the mortality of men with prostate cancer that has not yet spread, and the results of this study will encourage experts to further their efforts in larger clinical trials. Confirm the above correlation.

The study investigated 4,623 Swedes who were diagnosed with localized prostate cancer between 1997 and 2002 and have been pursuing research until 2012. They completed a questionnaire on exercise levels and 561 men died during the study, 194 of whom died of prostate cancer. The results of the analysis showed that men do activities equivalent to walking or cycling for 20 minutes or more per day, resulting in a 30% reduction in death due to any cause and a 39% reduction in the likelihood of dying from prostate cancer.

Stephanie Bonn, Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Karolinska Institute, said the findings amplify the known benefits of physical activity. The survival of a person depends on many factors, but physical activity can be adjusted by the individual. I hope that our research will motivate people to be active even if they are diagnosed with prostate cancer.

The researchers said that regular physical activity has many benefits, and this study suggests it may be helpful for localized prostate cancer. But the results of the survey are inconclusive, so we need to conduct random experiments to more thoroughly verify this theory.
