At the "MEDTEC Japan 2013" held in April 2013, Murata produced this technology as an application of the company's proposed MEMS accelerometer.
The basic principle of this technology is to use the acceleration sensor to detect the heart impact map (BCG, ballistocardiogram). The heart impact map records the tiny body vibrations caused by the physical movement of the heart. This technique uses a accelerometer mounted on a weight scale device or bed to detect a heart impact map to measure heart rate.
In the sensor business unit of Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., the second sensor product department FAE class Kimura Masaru said that because BCG is a very small movement, the sensor with "accuracy about 50 times the normal acceleration sensor" is used. It can detect small vibrations with a gravitational acceleration of only 0.001G. The company called the sensor a tilt sensor, produced by VTI Technologies (now Murata Electronics), which the company acquired in January 2012.
The tilt sensor can be used for construction machines such as loaders, medical equipment, and measurement systems for aircraft. Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. announced in September 2012 that it has jointly developed the electric walker "KeePace" with the manufacturer of the welfare equipment, and the product has been reported using the tilt sensor.
According to reports, Murata's "MEDTEC Japan 2013" exhibition revealed the technology and is currently negotiating with a number of customers (equipment manufacturers). Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. plans to provide tilt sensor units and modules equipped with tilt sensors to equipment manufacturers for this heart rate measurement. The goal is to conduct an empirical test with equipment manufacturers in 2013 and to achieve practical use in 2014.
