Russia injects human genes into sheep body for quality milk
At present, scientists from Russia and Belarus are working together on a biological gene transfer experiment. In order to obtain quality milk products more suitable for human consumption, they will transplant human genes into female goats. Professor Alexander Bujević from the Institute of Zoology of the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences is leading this transnational gene transfer pilot project. In mid-September, science in Russia and Belarus will inject human genes into 100 goat embryos. Since then, the scientists have put these embryos into the female goat to grow and develop, hoping to obtain a new goat that contains human genes. Professor Budjevic said that the human genes that will be used in the experiments are Russian scientists who are separated from human breast milk. Scientists hope that human genes can fully function in goats, so that genetically modified female goats can produce high-quality dairy products that are more suitable for infants to digest. Professor Budjevic predicted that female goats genetically modified can produce about 800 liters of high-quality goat milk each year. Belarus began research on animal gene transfer technology 15 years ago. At present, Belarusian scientists have used animal gene transplantation technology to improve the population quality of many livestock.
