According to the heat exchange between hot and cold fluids, heat exchangers can be divided into three categories:

A wall-type heat exchanger is a device in which a hot and cold fluid is separated by a solid partition wall and exchanges heat through the partition wall. This kind of heat exchanger can ensure that the hot and cold fluids are not mixed, so the application is wide. According to the structure of the heat transfer surface, the partition wall heat exchanger is further divided into a tube heat exchanger (such as shell-and-tube heat exchanger, coil heat exchanger, casing heat exchanger, spray heat exchanger, air cooling). And other types of plate heat exchangers (such as spiral plate heat exchangers, plate heat exchangers, plate-fin heat exchangers, etc.).

2 Contact heat exchangers The direct contact between the hot and cold fluids for heat exchange, also known as hybrid heat exchangers. Such as cool water towers, packed towers for gas cooling, and hybrid condensers. The contact heat exchanger has a good heat transfer effect, but is limited to the case where the hot and cold fluids are mutually insoluble and allow mutual mixing.

3 Regenerative heat exchangers The equipment for heat exchange between the hot and cold fluids by means of thermal storage fillers (such as refractory bricks, corrugated aluminum strips), also known as heat accumulators. Some regenerators allow the hot and cold fluid to alternately pass through the fixed regenerative packing for intermittent heat exchange, such as a preheating chamber for the kiln combustion air. Some regenerator regenerative fillings are filled in a slow-rotating multi-chamber device, and the hot and cold fluids are continuously exchanged through different parts of the device. The typical device is a rotary regenerator. The heat accumulator is used in metallurgy, oxygen production, power, petrochemical and other departments, mainly as an air preheater.
