Recently, domestic pork prices have remained high, and at the same time, food safety incidents involving "lean meat essence", "water injection meat" and "disease meat" have been reported from time to time. In this context, the Ministry of Commerce disclosed on its website yesterday that from October this year, the department will jointly with the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, and the Food and Drug Administration, and conduct a total of nine projects nationwide. The month's crackdown on private slaughter and slaughter strengthened the special hygiene control of meat products and regulated meat production.

It is reported that the operation will focus on banned illegal slaughter of professional villages (households) or illegal slaughtering of dens, slandering illegally slaughtered and slaughtered meat illegally operating networks, and regulate meat production and management practices. By the end of June 2012, all the pork sold in cities above the prefecture level will be from fixed-point slaughter enterprises; by the end of 2012, all the pork that is trying to achieve sales or use in towns will come from designated slaughter companies. The circular emphasizes that all localities must, in accordance with the unified deployment of the State Council’s safety rectification and control of fresh meat and meat products, co-ordinate the promotion of special campaigns against private slaughter and slaughtering, special rectification of "lean meat", and crackdowns on the production and sale of water-injected meat, diseased meat, etc.

In July this year, the Ministry of Commerce had asked all localities to continue to increase the efforts to clean up and rectify the hog slaughter industry, and severely crack down on illegal slaughtering. The Development and Reform Commission also issued a notice in September to reduce the cost of circulation of agricultural and sideline products. The quarantine fees for livestock and poultry such as pigs, cattle, sheep, dogs, chickens and ducks have fallen by more than 30%.
