Domestic superconducting cyclotron superconducting magnet completes source acceptance

According to the news from the China Institute of Atomic Energy (hereinafter referred to as the Atomic Energy Institute), on January 6, 2017, the core component of the “Dragon Technology 2020” Science and Technology Innovation Project “Key Technology and Engineering Research of Medical Cyclotron” – the superconducting magnet completion source Acceptance.

The management and technical personnel of the Science and Technology and Information Technology Department of the China Nuclear Group, the Atomic Energy Institute, and Shanghai Chenguang Medical Technology Co., Ltd. participated in the acceptance of the source.

According to reports, the superconducting magnet is one of the core components of the 230MeV (mega electron volt) cyclotron, using liquid helium cooling, operating temperature of 4.2K, the highest magnetic field of 3.0T. Compared with the normal-energy normal-temperature cyclotron, the weight of the main magnet can be reduced by about 3/5, and the power consumption can be reduced by 3/4, which can greatly reduce the construction cost and operating cost of the accelerator, and improve the reliability of the accelerator operation.

Early last year, CIAE take independent innovation, design their own development path, independent research and energy for proton therapy 230MeV (MeV) prototype superconducting cyclotron, proton therapy system as compact core devices. After having the core technology, if it can be industrialized, it will effectively reduce the cost of proton therapy.

Previously, the 100MeV proton cyclotron independently developed by the Atomic Energy Institute brought a technological breakthrough to the cancer treatment device that produces proton beams.
