New blood test means can detect tuberculosis infection two years in advance
According to a recent article published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicin, scientists have developed a new type of tuberculosis test that can be obtained two years before a patient develops symptoms. Accurate diagnosis.
The risk of tuberculosis is extremely high in people with active bacilli in the body. However, there is currently no blood diagnosis method that accurately predicts the risk of tuberculosis carriers.
Recently, the researchers said they developed a method for predicting the prevalence of high-risk populations of tuberculosis by using blood samples to detect four gene expression profiles and validating their effectiveness. Among them, the key detection index is called RISK4, which is a collective name for the four genes involved in the inflammatory response.
In this study, the authors focused on the presence of active bacilli in the body, including 4,466 HIV-negative healthy individuals (some of whom have active Mycobacterium tuberculosis). Afterwards, the researchers collected blood samples from participants and stored them.
Afterwards, the authors analyzed 79 samples of participants with worsening symptoms of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and 328 healthy controls, and detected differences in gene expression between the two groups, and finally found the above four types of genes.
"Either of the above four genes can be used as an indicator to obtain accurate prediction results, but combining the four indicators can further improve the detection accuracy," the authors said.
Although there are already some means of predicting the progression of tuberculosis, this new method of detection can provide an accurate diagnostic route for a small number of high-risk groups, which will help reduce the risk of tuberculosis.
