How to rear breeding ewes

The breeding of breeding ewes is the basis for the development of the sheep industry. Their good or bad feeding is directly related to the success or failure of the sheep industry. Therefore, breeding ewes should be well managed before breeding, pre-pregnancy, late pregnancy and lactation.

Feeding of pre-breeding ewes This period mainly ensures that the ewes have a good body condition so that they can perform normal estrus, ovulation and pregnancy. The quality of nutrition is an important factor affecting the normal estrus and conception of ewe. Therefore, short-term superior feeding should be given 45 days before mating, so that the ewes can obtain enough protein, minerals and vitamins to maintain a good body condition. This will enable the ewes to have early estrus, multiple ovulation, regular estrus and concentrated lambs, and to increase fertility rates and odds.

Pre-pregnancy Ewes are bred to the ewes for a period of 5 months. The first 3 months are called pre-pregnancy. During this period, pregnant ewes need to meet their own needs of nutrients, but also to meet the nutrients needed for the growth and development of the fetus, so we must strengthen feeding.

The ewes rearing the ewes during the second trimester of pregnancy are in the late pregnancy. During this period, the fetus grows and develops rapidly in the mother's body. The fetus's bones, muscles, skin, and internal organs grow rapidly, requiring many nutrients and high quality. Ewes should be supplemented with feed containing protein, vitamins, and minerals, such as hay, bean cake, bone meal, salt, and so on. Each sheep feeds 0.25-0.5 kg of mixed feed each day. If the ewes are undernourished in the later stages of pregnancy, the development of the fetus will be greatly affected, resulting in the lamb's initial weight, poor resistance, and low survival rate. Be careful not to feed the ewes with mould, spoilage, and rotten feed to prevent miscarriage. Three days before the childbirth, preparations for lambs should be made.

The ewes that feed the ewes during lactation have poor health after delivery and should strengthen feeding. Supplemented feeds have high nutritional value and are easily digested, allowing the ewes to recover as quickly as possible and have sufficient milk. At the beginning of lactation, it is mainly to ensure that its lactation function is normal, and to carefully observe and care for ewes and lambs. More care should be given to ewes with more lambs, and more high quality hay and mixed feeds should be fed. The period of lactation is generally 30-45 days after childbirth. Nutrients stored in the ewes continue to decrease and their body weight also decreases. At this stage, feeding conditions have a great influence on milk yield. Ewes should be given the most superior feeding conditions. With the best diet, the level of dietary levels can be adjusted according to the amount of lactation, usually every day. Sheep feed two kilograms of juicy feed and 0.25 kilograms of mixed feed. During the late lactation, gradually reduce the nutritional level and control the feed amount of the mixed feed. Lambs are generally weaned at two months of age. After lambs are weaned, the ewes enter the empty period. This period is mainly for daily feeding management.
