On December 18th, the seminar on the difficulties and countermeasures for the promotion of the national essential drugs and the 6th "safe drug use by the people" survey were held in Dongguan, Guangdong Province.

Zheng Hong, Director of the Department of Drug Policy and Essential Drugs of the Ministry of Health, listened carefully to the opinions and suggestions of corporate representatives on basic drug procurement, and gave explanations on the focus of the company’s concerns. He said that the newly issued "Guidance Opinions on Establishing and Regulating the Basic Drug Purchase Mechanism of the Government for Basic Medical and Health Institutions" has been formulated after incorporating various opinions, and provides policy guarantees for the implementation of the basic drug system. The procurement mechanism fully takes into account the needs of the company, where a strict purchase payment system can ensure that the payment of goods is paid in full and on time so that the company can invest capital in R&D and expand production. The link between quantity and price and the single-source commitment not only embodies the government-led approach, but also conforms to the laws of market economy. Drug procurement at medical institutions at or above the county level will also gradually explore the form of intensive procurement. Regarding the issue of prices that companies are generally concerned about, Zheng Hong said that relevant departments are researching and formulating scientific and rational drug evaluation standards to ensure the quality of basic drugs is safe and reliable.

At the meeting, the findings of the sixth "People's Safe Drug Use" campaign sponsored by the Health Newspaper revealed that the content of the investigation was the use of essential medicines in the country. Wang Shuo, president and editor-in-chief of the Health Newspaper Company, issued the “Social Responsibility Contribution Award” to 32 pharmaceutical manufacturers.
