The researchers obtained "artificial lung" cells from the lungs of pigs and used them to grow tissues that match the receptors for transplanted lungs.

It was found that all "artificial lungs" survived healthy after transplantation. In some cases, it takes only two weeks for the lungs to form a strong network of blood vessels, which is the key to the survival of the receptor.
